چکیده

We have investigated microstructural characteristics and solute Si element in the α-Al (fcc) matrix of Al-12%Si binary alloy additive-manufactured by laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) process terms different locations melt-pool structure (inside or around boundaries). Their variations post heat-treatments at various temperatures were examined. The fraction phase lattice parameter quantified XRD measurements combined with sample rotation oscillation systems. In L-PBF manufactured sample, columnar phases contained highly concentrated solution (above 3 mol%) inside melt-pools, whereas measured content was approximately 2 mol% relatively coarsened along boundaries. location dependence would be associated a continuous change growth rate solid solidification local heating process. significantly reduced its appeared less pronounced. as-manufactured exhibited lower comparison heat-treated samples. became higher These results rationalized elevated temperatures.

Mesoscopic Simulation of Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow in Laser Powder Bed Additive Manufacturing

Laser-powder bed fusion (L-PBF) additive manufacturing involves complex physics such as heat transfer and molten metal flow, which have a significant influence on the final build quality. In this study, transport phenomena based modeling is used to provide a quantitative understanding of complex molten pool transients. In particular, a three dimensional (3D), transient numerical model is develo...

Microstructure and corrosion characteristics of laser-alloyed magnesium alloy AZ91D with Al-Si powder.

Blown-powder laser surface alloying was performed on the magnesium alloy AZ91D with Al-Si alloy powder to improve corrosion resistance. Characterization by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that intermetallic compounds (IMCs) of Mg2Si, Al12Mg17 and Al3Mg2 were formed in the matrix of α-Mg and Al solid solutions...

Influence of grain refiner addition and heat treatment on the mechanical properties of Al-Si alloy

In the present investigation, an attempt is made to study the effect of addition of grain refinement on Al-Si alloy, when it is subjected to the combined grain refiner addition (Al-5T-1B) and subjected to mechanical vibration and heat treatment. The material is tested for hardness property and dry sliding wear properties. The results of the present investigation indicate that there is a conside...

The Effect of Powder Recycling in Direct Metal Laser Deposition on Powder and Manufactured Part Characteristics

A potential way of improving the material efficiency and cost effectiveness of the Direct Metal Laser Deposition (DMLD) process is to take powder that is not utilised in each deposition attempt and re-use it in subsequent attempts (powder recycling). Currently, this is not widely implemented for fear of a detrimental effect on part quality. This study examines how powder recycling, using simple...
